This Historic Cottage Addition carries a unique sense of history. The original home on White Bear Lake, Minnesota, was designed by the renowned architect Cass Gilbert, and its yellow-and-white cottage exterior remains a beloved landmark in the community. Our challenge was to add an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) that honored Gilbert’s vision while providing modern functionality for the homeowners.
Blending old and new required meticulous craftsmanship. Exterior details, scale, and materials were carefully matched so the addition feels seamless yet distinct, respecting the character of the original home. Inside, the ADU offers comfortable, independent living space, thoughtfully designed to extend the property’s functionality without diminishing its historic charm.
The result is a residence that balances architectural legacy with contemporary comfort—a home where new and old coexist gracefully, crafted to serve both today’s needs and the enjoyment of generations to come.
It’s your dream home, choose your builder carefully.
